MAYOR’S MESSAGE BY MAYOR HARRY R. RISKIE
January 3, 2011 – Reorganizational Meeting
of Mayor & Council of the City of Woodbury

Happy New Year to all of you, and a grateful thank you to Mayor Curtis for his service to Woodbury. Congratulations to all elected and reelected and appointed Councilpersons.

We are at a crossroads in our City. We need to focus on change thru Economic Development, and also Redevelopment. I urge the Council to not only work with Main Street, but also advertise for the position of Economic Director. This will greatly enhance the opportunity for new business. It is my goal to coordinate with the Council and the Planning/Zoning Board to make this happen. We should set a goal to bring a major business such as an established restaurant into Woodbury by the middle of this year.

I also want to work with Underwood Hospital. We need medical professionals in Woodbury, and this facility would be the avenue to make this happen. The City has to be willing to do its part, whenever possible. I will be reaching out to Underwood.

However, the most important part of our plan this year isn’t just government, and established operations. It is the citizens within our town, and the surrounding area. I encourage everyone to visit Woodbury, walk its downtown, enjoy its events and to spend money here! We need in part to keep ratables, and to hold the line now on taxes. The tax rate, even after reevaluation this year has to remain flat.

If we can stay focused on positive goals, we CAN make this work. I’m ready to give 110% toward this effort! I hope all of you are.

This is a new beginning. Let’s make it happen!

Thank you, and best wishes,
Harry R. Riskie, Mayor
