Councilwoman Gwendolyn Joyce Brown


Councilwoman Brown was born and raised in Woodbury and is a graduate of Woodbury High School. A Licensed Practical Nurse and a Certified Parent Educator, Mrs. Brown was formerly employed with the YWCA of Camden County and by the County of Gloucester. First appointed to City Council in 1995, Councilwoman Brown has since been elected to serve four terms and has received Certification from Rutgers University’s Center for Government Services Municipal Elected Officials Program.

Councilwoman Brown currently is the Chairperson of the Community Development Committee, and also serves on the Personnel and Parks & Recreation Committees.

Councilwoman Brown is a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, the Gloucester County NAACP, Healthy Mothers – Healthy Babies, Gloucester County Minority Coalition, Parents Anonymous, the Neighborhood Preservation Program, Center City Neighborhood Watch, the Seeds to Success Youth Farmstand Program, the Woodbury High School Minority Task Force, the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Anti-Crime Task Force, and the NJ Federation of Democratic Women. Ms. Brown is well known as an avid photographer, recording the many people and events in her life through photographs. Mrs. Brown has a son Cleatous and daughter-in-law Robyn and granddaughter “Precious” Nina.
