2014 Make A Difference Day – Sat., October 25, 2014 from 8am until Noon. Local volunteers are encouraged to participate in the largest national day of community service on October 25 in Woodbury. Through Make a Difference Day, the City of Woodbury is joining hundreds of other organizations around the country that are engaging their community in service. This year in Woodbury, volunteers will be performing landscaping work along S. Broad Street by installing landscaping bricks along the tree beds in the downtown and sprucing up the park at the site of the new police station. Volunteers are needed to weed, rake, plant, and paint, as well as install the landscaping bricks. Meet us at the corner of S. Broad Street and E. Barber Ave. on Saturday, October 25 between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. Bring your rakes, shovels, trowels, and gardening gloves. Hydrant Flushing - The City Department of Public Works will be flushing fire hydrants throughout the City and outlying area starting on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014. Flushing will be done from 10pm to 7am Sunday through Thursday. Please see the newspaper ad for more information.
Office of Emergency Management Update - Currently, we are participating with the County Office of Emergency Management to update the municipality’s Hazard Mitigation Plan. The original plan was adopted several years ago and needs to be updated to maintain eligibility for certain federal grants as well as make sure we are working together to reduce the risk from natural disasters and hazards to the extent possible. Woodbury School Events – The Business Operations Committee of the Woodbury City Public School District will be meeting on Wednesday, October 22 at 6:00 p.m. in the Junior-Senior High School library (25 N. Broad Street) to discuss the district’s 2015-2016 budget with the public. All are invited to attend.
There will be a ‘Meet the Candidate’s Night for the Woodbury Board of Education Nominees, hosted by the West End PTA, on Thursday, October 23 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at West End Memorial School located at 215 Queen Street.
Woodbury City Public Schools Needs YOUR Input! Woodbury City Public Schools is updating its Strategic Plan, a document that identifies clear goals, outcomes, and priorities for its schools. 2012 Homestead Benefit – The filing deadline for 2012 New Jersey Homestead Benefit Applications was January 31, 2014. Eligibility requirements and benefit amounts for 2012 will not be finalized until the completion of the State Budget for FY 2015, which must be adopted by July 1, 2014. Homestead benefits for 2012 are expected to be applied to May 2015 property tax bills. Additional information on the 2012 homestead benefit will be posted when it becomes available. City Water Supply – March 13, 2014 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – In a proactive move, and as a result of a voluntary, precautionary test performed by Solvay Solexus, a West Deptford based chemical company, the City of Woodbury will temporarily not utilize one of their five (5) active wells used for the public water supply. Solvay, in conjunction with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, recently began similar tests in some surrounding communities as a result of the possible contamination of the water supply by their facility. The results found in one of the City’s wells was less than what was found in other municipalities, but nonetheless the City is taking pre-emptive action and gathering more information from our entire water supply system to ensure the highest level of public safety. The City’s water supply is, as it always has been, in full compliance with all federal and state regulations and health standards. Read full press release here
